Richard Heathcote/Getty ImagesMay 30, 2026 12:30 pm EDT Updated Hungarian police are investigating an altercation between fans in Budapest that took place the night before the Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.Police also confirmed that arrests had been made on Friday after a fight at the Champions Festival, a fan event at the city’s Heroes’ Square. The final is being hosted by Budapest’s Puskas Arena.In a statement to The Athletic, Hungarian police said: “At around 4 p.m., two Portuguese and a British man got into a fight at one of the gates of the Champions Festival. The police separated them and then took them into custody, where they were charged with disorderly conduct.”

A British citizen was also arrested in Budapest’s seventh district “after climbing onto the roof of a parked car and damaging the vehicle.”Footage circulated on social media appeared to show fans clashing in the street overnight, with some appearing to throw flares.“After midnight, a group of fans lit and threw flares in Kiraly Street, District VII, and several people got into a fight,” police added in their statement. “A case has been opened against unknown perpetrators due to group disorder, within the framework of which the police are also analyzing the camera footage, and the identification of the perpetrators is in progress.”May 30, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
