MASSOB said the observance demonstrated the commitment of Biafrans to honouring the memory of those who died during the civil war and preserving what it described as the heritage of the Biafran struggle.
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has commended residents across the South-East and parts of the South-South for complying with its sit-at-home directive to mark the 59th anniversary of the declaration of Biafra, while renewing its call on churches to hold memorial services for victims of the Nigerian Civil War.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, the group expressed appreciation to what it described as the “great people of Biafra” for observing the stay-at-home exercise in remembrance of the May 30, 1967 declaration of the defunct Republic of Biafra by the late General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
MASSOB said the observance demonstrated the commitment of Biafrans to honouring the memory of those who died during the civil war and preserving what it described as the heritage of the Biafran struggle.
“The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) congratulate the great people of Biafra for observing today's sit-at-home exercise in commemoration of the 59th anniversary declaration of Biafra by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in 1967,” the statement read.
