Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services K. Shankar inspected the Madurai Central Prisons on Saturday and enquired about the grievances of the prisoners and prison staff.To enhance the skills of the prisoners and to bring about a behavioural change in their lives, he inaugurated a modern tailoring unit equipped with 40 newly purchased tailoring machines.He inspected various areas, including the prison hospital, kitchen, industrial units, prison bazaar, library, interview room, and the prison school.He advised the prisoners to utilise the welfare and correctional schemes of the Prison Department effectively to improve their lives. He also inspected the newly installed Video Wall in the prison control room.Following this, he inspected the Madurai Special Prison for Women and enquired about the grievances of the prisoners and the staff.He then held a consultation meeting with the Executive Engineers of the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation. regarding the construction works of the new Central Prison being built near Melur.
