BJP leader and Minister A. Namassivayam on Saturday called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi.Mr. Namassivayam told The Hindu that it was a courtesy call as Mr. Shah had campaigned for him in the Mannadipet constituency during the recent Assembly elections. “The Home Minister had addressed a public meeting in the constituency ahead of the elections. I thanked him for campaigning for me. I also thanked him for the Central government’s support in the conferment of the prestigious President’s Police Colour for the Puducherry police and the recent notification approving the setting up of two SEZs in Puducherry,” he said. The Union Home Minister has assured to support all the development needs of Puducherry. The Centre was very fast in providing approvals for the two SEZs which were initiated during the first tenure of the National Democratic Alliance government in Puducherry, Mr. Namassivayam said. “Mr. Shah has asked party cadre to work towards further strengthening the organisation. The party’s Central leadership will guide us in taking decisions for making the organisation more strong in all the four regions of the Union Territory,” the Minister said. The Saturday’s visit by Mr. Namassivayam to Delhi was a second one in a short span of time. Last week, he had visited Delhi to call on Vice-President C. P. Radhakarishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Nitin Nabin and BJP national general secretary (organisation) B. L. Santhosh. The visits assume importance as a full-fledged Ministry of the NDA headed by Chief Minister and AINRC founder N. Rangasamy is yet to take shape in the Union Territory. The oath taking of Mr. Rangasamy, Mr. Namassivayam and a legislator of AINRC Malladi Krishna Rao as Minister had only taken place after the NDA returned to power in the 2026 Assembly polls.
