Kolkata, Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd on Saturday laid the keel of the fourth vessel under a multi-purpose vessel (MPV) project for German shipping company Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG, an official said.Reinforcing its presence in the global commercial shipbuilding market, the Kolkata-based warship manufacturer laid the keel as part of a 12-vessel MPV construction and delivery contract."The project represents the largest commercial shipbuilding export order secured by GRSE and highlights the shipyard's strategic emphasis on expanding its commercial portfolio while strengthening its position in international markets," the GRSE official said.The project entails designing and constructing a series of advanced CORAL 7500 DWT multi-purpose vessels, developed jointly by GRSE and Carsten Rehder, Germany, he said.The first contract covering four vessels was signed in 2024 with subsequent agreements expanding the order book to 12 vessels, the official said.He said that each vessel in the series will measure 120 metres in length and is designed to carry up to 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo.
