TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Liverpool FC has sacked head coach Arend "Arne" Slot following his failure to lead the Reds to a trophy across all competitions in the 2025/2026 season. The club seemingly believes Arne Slot failed to maximize his squad's potential despite being backed heavily by the transfer market."Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way. He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation," Liverpool wrote on its social media accounts on Saturday. The decision to part ways with Slot was made by Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), after a poor season that saw Liverpool finish fifth in the Premier League with just 60 points, their lowest total in a decade. Thus, Slot only lasted two seasons with Liverpool after replacing manager Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2024.Arne Slot became a household name after successfully bringing the Premier League title to Anfield in his inaugural 2024/2025 season. However, the following season, Slot failed to improve the performance of Cody Gakpo and his teammates, who suffered a total of 19 defeats in all competitions, including 12 in the Premier League.Liverpool only managed to finish fifth in the Premier League standings with 60 points. Furthermore, Liverpool was lackluster in the Champions League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup this season. This is despite Liverpool bringing in several top-class players at the start of the 2025/2026 season, including Florian Writz, Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez.Liverpool's management is currently entering the summer transfer window to find a new manager.Rumored by a number of British media, Andoni Iraola is one of the strong candidates to fill the coaching seat at the Merseyside-based team.Read: Robertson: Liverpool Could Have Won More Titles Without GuardiolaClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
