The faction noted that a formal public presentation and flag-giving ceremony would be organized at a later date, away from the administrative interference of the FCT administration.
In a showdown that pushed Nigeria's capital to the brink of a major political confrontation, the anti-Wike faction of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has bypassed a massive military-grade police blockade and demolition threats from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to officially affirm former President Goodluck Jonathan as its consensus presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was contained in a communiqué released on Saturday, May 30, 2026, by the National Publicity Secretary of the party’s Interim National Working Committee (I-NWC), Comrade Ini Ememobong.
The faction revealed that despite more than 20 truckloads of armed policemen completely shutting down roads leading to the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja and Wike threatening to revoke the property’s Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), the party's core organs successfully convened an emergency session at an undisclosed location to execute the political coup.
According to the PDP, statutory notices had been duly served to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and federal security agencies weeks ahead of the Special National Convention. The venue had been fully paid for, and preparatory teams had already gained access.
