Bengaluru: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Saturday elected Dy CM DK Shivakumar as its new leader paving the way for his taking over as Chief Minister from Siddaramaiah on June 3, Wednesday.The eight-time MLA from Kanakapura taluk will take oath along with four deputy CMs and half a dozen ministers, according to initial reports. A final picture will emerge by Monday evening.The CLP which met in the presence of AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal, RS Surjewala and Jairam Ramesh, first adopted a resolution authorising the party high command to choose its leader. The CLP took a brief break after that to help senior leaders hold a brief meeting in the CM’s chamber.When the CLP reconvened, Siddaramaiah, also the outgoing CLP leader, proposed Shivakumar’s name as the new leader and the same was endorsed by senior leader G Parameshwara.Also Read | Karnataka to get new CM on June 3 as DK Shivakumar wins Congress Legislative Party raceA Congress delegation including Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah and the AICC leaders later met governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and staked the party’s claim to form the government.Shivakumar will visit Delhi on Monday to meet the AICC leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to finalise the list of persons to be inducted as Dy CMs and ministers in the first instalment, sources close to the CLP leader said.The second round of induction may take some time, they added.One Congress source said Priyank Kharge, MB Patil, Satish Jarkiholid and BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan may get to join the Cabinet as Dy CMs. One group is pushing the name of Parameshwara for Speaker’s post as the incumbent UT Khader is keen on becoming a minister. The AICC may clear the name of Dr Yatindra Siddaramaiah to join the Cabinet as a first step to remove any hurt feelings in Siddaramaiah.

DK Shivakumar has been chosen as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party. He is set to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, June 3. Shivakumar will be sworn in with several deputy chief ministers and ministers. A final cabinet list is expected by Monday evening. The party leadership made the decision after a CLP meeting.
