The Departments of Anatomy and ENT at Tiruchi SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre conducted a three-day endoscopic base-of-skull surgery course from May 29 to 31 for the benefit of specialised practitioners.According to a press release, the hands-on cadaveric surgical workshop, led by T.N. Janakiraman (director, Royal Pearl Hospital), focused on advanced endoscopic skull-base interventions. Mohan Kameshwaran, managing director and senior consultant, Madras ENT Research Foundation; Shivakumar, chairman, SRM Institutions (Tiruchi and Ramapuram campuses) and senior officials were present. The skull base is a highly complex anatomical zone supporting the brain and protecting vital neurovascular structures. Pathologies in this region — such as tumours and cerebrospinal fluid leaks — historically required highly invasive open craniotomies. Advanced endoscopic skull-base surgery bypasses these risks by utilising natural nasal corridors, offering patients a minimally invasive alternative that significantly reduces trauma and recovery times, said the release.A total of 11 specialists from Syria, Uzbekistan, and Eswatini, besides Indian delegates from medical centres spanning Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Odisha, Chandigarh, and Tamil Nadu, were among the participants.
