African electric mobility company Spiro has acquired motorcycle engineering specialist Coexlion to strengthen product development and localisation capabilities. The company added that the move would accelerate product development cycles and improve localisation of components and vehicle architecture.According to Spiro, Coexlion’s engineering team has contributed to more than 25 motorcycle programmes globally, including electric two-wheelers, chassis and frame development, reliability engineering, battery systems and industrial design.The engineering firm operates from locations in India and the United Kingdom. Its integration into Spiro’s operations will complement the company’s existing technology platform, which includes an R&D centre in Pune, more than 150 engineers and over 30 proprietary patents.Spiro currently assembles electric motorcycles in several African markets, with active assembly plants in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Nigeria. The company is also expanding its battery-swapping infrastructure for electric two-wheelers across the continent. The planned R&D centre in Kenya will become Spiro’s first engineering hub in Africa.
