Emmerdale actor Andrew Scarborough, who plays Graham Foster on the ITV soap, has teased his latest storyline after a discovery about teenager Kyle Winchester and the recent fires07:11, 30 May 2026Emmerdale’s Graham Foster has tackled all kinds of village drama since his return from the dead back in January, from scaring off drug traffickers to dealing with the Tates’ feud with the Dingles. Now his latest storyline sees the villainous henchman take troubled teenager Kyle Winchester [Huey Quinn] under his wing. As he makes the horrifying discovery that Kyle is behind the fires on Robert Sugden’s farm next week, Graham steps in to stop the youngster before it’s too late.Andrew Scarborough, who plays Graham, says it’s his character’s own tragic past that encourages him to take immediate action. Andrew, 52, tells us: “He's had quite a lot of tragedy, and he's lost, and has found things that were not good for him. He's self-medicated. Arson, I suppose, is a form of that. Graham sees Kyle as somebody who's lost his way and still young, so he has a bit more forgiveness for him."I think Graham would have been a very good tutor in another life. Being one of those guys that you would have gone to as a rock, if he hadn't gone off the path himself. I think that's what he's trying to give Kyle.”Andrew recalls Graham’s past heartbreak, after the death of his beloved wife Cheryl and their unborn child in a car crash. The accident was caused by Graham who had lost control of the car he was driving while drunk. Andrew says his character is in a constant state of mourning, while it also explains his signature look.He says: “He wanted a family when he was younger but he blew that completely. So he's mourning that the whole time, hence why he always wears the suit. He wears a red tie because he's been to hell and back and that's his reminder."He does have one suit because he's got OCD and PTSD, so he tries to cope. That's his coping mechanism.” Graham’s trauma is triggered when he finds Kyle starting another blaze. As Kyle explains his actions are a response to his ongoing turmoil, Graham softens and promises to help the teenager.Kyle is still grieving the loss of his mother Amy Barton a year ago, after she was killed in a limo crash. Recently, Kyle and his family were forced to leave the farm and their home because of Joe Tate’s meddling. Kyle’s stepmother Moira had been sent to prison for a crime she did not commit, around the same time Kyle’s dad Cain was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. It’s all taken a toll on Kyle, and now Graham is determined to turn his life around before it’s too late. Someone who he’s failed to keep on the right path though is Joe, who has created one too many enemies in the village. But Andrew says Graham will always stand by him.He says: “I think he wants to correct him. He loves him, so he wants to help him, and again it's that paternal thing. He realises Joe was hurt. I think he will stand by him.”As for Graham’s future with his ruthless former flame Kim Tate, Andrew says that despite Graham trying to kill her recently, they could reunite. He tells us: “I think they feel quite safe picking battles with each other. They see how far they can push each other, but at the same time, they haven't quite pushed each other over the edge yet."I think there's always going to be a spark between Graham and Kim. I hope so because I enjoy that sort of firecracking stuff that goes on. I love the one-liners.” Andrew isn’t ready for Graham to settle down just yet though. He says: “He's essentially got this dysfunctional kind of family now at Home Farm, Graham would like to settle, but I'm not sure if as an actor I would. I think it would dull him a bit. I wouldn't want to do that, but as an actor, you'll do anything if they throw up an obstacle.Andrew also addressed Graham’s mystery connection to Coronation Street’s Jodie Ramsey, suggesting more will finally be confirmed for fans of both soaps. Jodie was tied up in the back of Graham’s van during the crossover, Corriedale. While there have been hints at what connected the characters before now, Andrew says the full picture will become clear. He says: “I think it's still all to come out. I think there's been a bit of confusion. He wasn't going to kill her.Article continues below"That wasn't the job. He was taking her to somebody and then he realised this person was bad. So he kind of let her go really. I think you do find out bits, and I think possibly later on you'll find out a bit more about the guys and who they were."It was a good mechanism to get Graham back, so it caused a bit of intrigue and hopefully it will be resolved. I still don't know much about the bad guy, so hopefully that'll come out at some point as well.”Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
