Patrick Gorski / Imagn ImagesBy The Athletic StaffMay 29, 2026 11:51 pm EDT Updated The Chicago White Sox will be without the American League’s co-home run leader Munetaka Murakami for at least a couple of weeks after he injured his hamstring running out a grounder in the third inning of Friday’s 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers, according to team sources who said the team will call up Jacob Gonzalez.Murakami, who blasted 56 homers for the Yakult Swallows in Japan’s Nippon Baseball League in 2022, has been a revelation since joining the White Sox. He’s been a true three-outcomes-hitter, with 20 home runs, 44 walks (fifth in baseball) and 80 strikeouts (tied for third). He’s third on the White Sox in bWAR at 1.9 as the South Siders have been one of the season’s biggest surprises with a 30-27 record that has placed them second in the AL Central.Gonzalez gets the call-up after hitting his 19th home run on Friday for Triple-A Charlotte. That total, along with his 62 RBIs, leads the International League.
