A man who died in a quad bike accident on the outskirts of Christchurch was a loved and respected leader of New Zealand’s Ni-Vanuatu community.

Richie George, 51, died after the quad bike rolled on a Tai Tapu property early Wednesday morning.

Family friend Neka Florence wrote in an online tribute that they were all broken-hearted after the “tragic and unexpected loss of a loving father while he was out bringing in the cows for milking”.

“In a heartbreaking quad bike accident, a devoted partner, father and leader within the New Zealand Vanuatu community was taken far too soon, leaving behind his three young children under the age of 10,” Florence wrote.

George was also remembered this week in a social media tribute by Vanuatu radio programme Yumi Talem.
