Nigeria’s U-17 girls side, the Flamingos, head into Sunday’s second leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo holding a commanding 5-0 advantage from the first leg played in Abidjan, Ivory Coast — but head coach Akeem Busari insists his side will not be taking the job for granted.
Busari acknowledged that managing complacency following such an emphatic first-leg victory is among his biggest challenges in the buildup to the home tie, warning that Guinea remain capable of a strong response.
“It happens in football because at the time when you are above a team in terms of goal-scoring and equally in performance, complacency will really set in as a human,” Busari said. “I see Guinea as a team that can still want to fight back. On our side, we still need to give more because we are playing at home. Our fans want to see the beauty of the game, we want to showcase what we have, we want to win excellently.” Related News Eagles, Reggae Boyz clash in Unity Cup final Team Nigeria begin African Taekwondo Championships quest Four Nigerian women in WBC top 10 rankings
The coach compared preparation to studying for examinations, stressing that sustained effort and repetition remain non-negotiable regardless of the aggregate position.
