At Bratislava Fecht, fighters from across Europe and beyond crossed blades in a growing sport built on bruises and centuries-old manuals.

“Fight!” shouts the referee, and Red begins her approach.

She jabs her sword cautiously at Blue, who does not flinch. Around the mat they circle, eyes locked through steel mesh helmets. Then Red commits: a sudden lunge, her blade slashing from right to left.

Blue meets it cleanly. He parries, twists his sword around hers, and uses the momentum of the clash to strike the side of her neck.

“Point Blue!” the referee calls.
