Winnipeg -- Intercontinental Exchange canola futures were struggling to maintain its rally at mid-session Friday.
Values were pushed higher by a lack of farmer selling and extreme heat across the Prairies, an analyst said.
"The farmer is not going to let anything go here until this crop is flowering," the analyst said. "Farmer selling has just dried right up."
Prairie temperatures have been pushing above 30 C this week, adding to the dryness. However, rain is forecast for much of the region during the weekend.
The analyst also said strong crush margins are indicative of good export demand. However, he noted there is some profit-taking by the spec funds which is weighing on canola values.
