The development has shattered the relative peace enjoyed on the highway since the conclusion of the historic #EndSARS protests, which had triggered the dismantling of dozens of extortionist checkpoints previously manned by various security arms, including the military.
The current wave of panic reached a tipping point following a series of brutal ambushes on the highway. In the most gruesome incident, the driver of a Toyota Sienna commercial transit bus was shot dead on the spot by hoodlums.
