May 29 (UPI) -- New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson underwent surgery on his broken right pinky earlier this week, but still plans to play in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Sources told ESPN, the New York Post and The Athletic about Robinson's plans on Friday. The Knicks will face the Oklahoma City Thunder or San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday.

Robinson appeared to sustain the injury during the Knicks' 130-93 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals Monday in Cleveland. He plans to wear a cast over his right hand in the NBA Finals.

The 7-foot center averaged 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game through his first 13 appearances this postseason. Mitchell scored 5.7 points, with 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, over 60 regular-season appearances. Robinson matched his playoff career-high with 13 points against the Atlanta Hawks in Game 2 of the Knicks' first-round series.
