Former Rajya Sabha member A. Elavarasan announced his resignation from the primary membership of the AIADMK, blaming its general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for the party’s defeat in the recent State Assembly elections.Speaking to reporters here. Mr. Elavarasan said the “adamant and unilateral” attitude of Mr. Palaniswami had led the party to face yet another defeat. He never consulted party men in taking decisions. Several decisions taken under his leadership had shaken the confidence of party cadres. He had sidelined party loyalists and those who worked hard for the growth of the party. Mr. Elavarasan alleged that newcomers and the influential persons with money power were given preference in contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. He said he had served the AIADMK for 45 years since 1983 in various capacities and had worked tirelessly for the growth of the party. He felt sad to see the party drifting like a rudderless boat under the leadership of Mr. Palaniswami. In spite of the party suffering 11 consecutive electoral defeats, Mr. Palaniswami had failed to analyse the reasons behind the defeats, he charged. Published - May 29, 2026 08:13 pm IST
