HyderabadThe Telangana State Information Commission (TGIC), since its formation in May 2025, has disposed off 14,434 cases till May 28 this year, leaving 10,996 cases pending. The Commission is currently disposing of nearly 1,200 cases every month.According to official figures, the Commission inherited 11,973 pending appeals and 5,835 complaints as of May 9, 2025. Including new cases received over the past year, the total caseload stood at 25,430. Nearly 1,100 old appeals and complaints pending between 2014 and 2021 were disposed of on priority basis.State Chief Information Commissioner (RTI) Chandrasekhar Reddy and Information Commissioners Borreddy Ayodhya Reddy, P.V. Srinivas, and Deshala Bhoopal paid a courtesy visit on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on completing one year in office, where they briefed the Chief Minister on the activities and functioning of the RTI Commission.Officials said the Commission interacted with nearly 30,000 appellants, Public Information Officers (PIOs), Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs), and First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) during hearings in the last one year.To improve awareness on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Commission conducted awareness camps in 20 districts and Hyderabad city, involving government officials and stakeholders. Around 10,000 participants attended these programmes.In another significant development, expenditure audits of the Commission were conducted for the first time since its inception. The Commission also prepared annual reports from 2014 to 2023 and placed printed and digital copies before both Houses of the Legislature, clearing a nearly decade-long backlog.Officials stated that the Commission had remained non-functional for long periods since Telangana’s formation on June 2, 2014. There was no Commission at all for more than three years until September 2017, while the body functioned with only two members between September 2017 and February 2020.The post of Chief Information Commissioner remained vacant since September 2022 for nearly two years and eight months, and there were no Commissioners since February 2023 until the present Commission took charge.
