Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has described the TDP’s decision to allocate 33% seats to women in legislative bodies as a historic step towards women’s political empowerment.Addressing the media at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Friday, Ms. Anitha said the decision, announced at the party’s Mahanadu, reflected the TDP’s long-standing commitment to women’s empowerment since its inception. She said the party considered women not merely as voters but as decision-makers, who could don leadership roles.Recalling the contributions of party founder and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao, she said NTR had introduced landmark reforms to provide women equal rights and dignity, including granting them equal rights in family property. She noted that Andhra Pradesh had become a model for similar reforms across the country.Ms. Anitha credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with empowering women economically through DWCRA self-help groups, which, she said, helped rural women achieve financial independence and self-confidence.She said the proposed 33% reservation in legislatures would provide women a greater role in policymaking and political leadership.Ms. Anita added that Mahanaadu symbolised the emotional bond between the party and its cadre, highlighting the large participation of women despite harsh summer conditions as a reflection of their trust in the TDP.
