Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari announced that the government has handed over more than 140 acres of land to the Border Security Force for construction of border outposts and barbed-wire fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. The move is part of the state government’s larger plan to transfer 600 acres for border infrastructure projects. Residents in several border districts, including Cooch Behar and Phansidewa, say the fencing will help curb infiltration, smuggling, cattle theft and illegal crossings. Show more Show less
