Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh on Friday reiterated that crimes against women would be dealt with under a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy and announced the implementation of ‘Operation Dandayan’ in Anantapur district as part of a statewide initiative aimed at ensuring swift investigation and speedy conviction in offences against women and children. The SP said the Andhra Pradesh Police had intensified ‘Speed Trial Monitoring’ to secure faster convictions in cases related to rape, domestic violence and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, all of which fall under the ambit of Operation Dandayan.Mr. Jagadeesh said all investigating officers had been directed to file charge sheets within 60 days in every case registered under crimes against women and children. Sensational cases would be transferred to fast-track courts for expedited trials, while repeat offenders and suspects would be closely monitored through the SOS-Secure Andhra System and the Cyber Watch surveillance network, he added.Emphasising that those accused in serious crimes against women would not be spared regardless of their influence, the SP said conviction-oriented policing remained a key priority of the department. Victims would be provided counselling and legal assistance, while regular awareness programmes would be conducted in educational institutions. The police would also utilise media platforms to strengthen public confidence, he added. Published - May 29, 2026 06:50 pm IST
