Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Kremlin’s security council and former Russian president, declared 'this is just the beginning' in a threat to the West following the Russian drone impact in Romania14:08, 29 May 2026Updated 14:18, 29 May 2026The Kremlin has warned the West to prepare for more drone strikes like today’s hit on NATO territory in Romania - and has blamed the UK and its allies.“Let them get ready: this will continue to happen. There is a war,” declared Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Kremlin’s security council and former Russian president. He claimed the West was responsible for the war launched by Putin which has torn apart Ukraine - blaming “scum” leaders of NATO states. “The Euro-impotents are screaming about a drone hitting a Romanian apartment building,” he said. “European states are directly involved in the war with Russia, and no one disputes that anymore.“Yes, they are fighting with the help of Banderites [Ukrainian nationalists], but what difference does it make to us? After all, European drones, spare parts for them, other weapons, not to mention intelligence, are participating in attacks on our country every day. As a result of their actions, residential buildings are damaged, killing our civilians.”The Russian drone crashed into a building in the eastern city of Galati during an overnight Russian attack Ukraine. It marks the first time in Russia’s four-year war on Ukraine that a drone has hit a densely populated area in the NATO member and caused injuries. Two people were hurt.Medvedev went on to blame the UK and its allies. He alleged: “Blood is on the hands of scumbags like Ursula [von der Leyen], [Friedrich] Merz, [Emmanuel] Macron, [Sir Keir] Starmer, and all the other repugnant parasites.”He said they were “scum directly responsible for this, as well as for the terrorist attack in Starobilsk” - referring to a strike last weekend when 21 students died in occupied Luhansk. All were over 18 but Russian accused Ukraine - which said it hit a military site - of killing “children”.Sir Keir Starmer described the strike as a "serious violation of NATO airspace". He added: "Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure threatens the security of our entire continent. The UK unreservedly condemns such strikes."However, in the face of widespread condemnation, Medvedev threatened more drone strikes like today’s,: “The citizens of EU states, like the populations of the warring countries, will not be able to sleep peacefully. Especially in those places where drone production facilities are located for [Ukrainian] forces. So shut up. This is just the beginning.”The West’s "imbecilic leaders" knew "perfectly well how to end the war," he said. "So hold them accountable!"Medvedev went on: "European drones, drone parts, other weapons—not to mention intelligence data—are used in attacks on our country every single day. And because of that, our residential buildings get damaged and our civilians die."His rhetoric - smacking of Russian desperation as its forces are on the back foot in the war with Ukraine - was echoed by Russian senator and former space agency chief Dmitry Rogozin. He told Romanian leaders: "Don’t you yourselves think that by providing transit and direct supplies of weapons and ammunition to Kyiv, you have long since dragged yourselves into the war?"So your surprise at the arriving drone looks like the height of hypocrisy? There's still more to come, Romanian gentlemen..."Romania and NATO announced they will tighten defences, and Bucharest accused the Putin regime of “a serious and irresponsible escalation”.Article continues belowF-16 fighters were scrambled from Romania earlier, and Romania later announced the expulsion of a Russian diplomat from Constanta, a Black Sea resort. The Russian consul general was declared persona non grata.
