“The DRC has said that on May 27, a patient recovered and left the hospital and has been discharged into the community,” the WHO’s Anais Legand told reporters.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday announced the first recovery of a confirmed Ebola patient in the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), describing the development as a significant milestone in efforts to contain the deadly disease.
“The DRC has said that on May 27, a patient recovered and left the hospital and has been discharged into the community,” the WHO’s Anais Legand told reporters.
She said the case marked the “first” recovery among patients who had been laboratory-confirmed to have Ebola during the current outbreak.
However, Legand stressed that there were likely to have been other recoveries among people whose infections had not yet been officially confirmed through testing.
