A severe storm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning killed two persons and injured at least seven others in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district, officials said on Friday (May 29, 2026).The storm also led to the death of 23 animals and partially damaged 45 houses, according to the district disaster management authority's damage report.According to the district administration, Sukhdevi (55), a resident of Umrar Kheda locality in Orai and Moolchand (60), a resident of Bajida village under Kotwali area, died in storm-related incidents on Thursday (May 28, 2026) night.The administration has initiated financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each to the families of the deceased under the government's relief policy, the officials said.The officials said relief assistance of over ₹12.88 lakh has been proposed for affected families.District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Singh remained in the field throughout Thursday (May 28, 2026) night to assess the damage and monitor relief and rescue operations in affected rural and urban areas.The District Magistrate inspected the government medical college, district hospital and other health facilities and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted emergency services, adequate medicines, beds, electricity backup and manpower.Mr. Pandey also directed the revenue, health, electricity, police and urban local body departments to work in coordination to provide all possible assistance to affected families.He said several electricity poles and power lines were damaged due to the storm and restoration work was being carried out on a war footing.The administration said the situation in the district remained under control and relief and rehabilitation work was continuing.
