Syrian President Ahmad Al Shara visited flood-hit Deir Ezzor to assess conditions and review humanitarian needs after surging Euphrates waters.

Days of heavy rain and upstream releases caused deaths, collapsed infrastructure and widespread flooding across Deir Ezzor and Raqqa.

Authorities deployed the military and navy, ferried residents by boat, reinforced embankments, and postponed university exams as emergency teams redeployed.

Water levels are forecast to fall within two days, but disrupted water stations and inundated homes, farms, a school and a mosque leave needs acute.
