The strike, which reportedly injured several people, has drawn attention within the alliance due to concerns about the proximity of the war in Ukraine to NATO territory.

Mark Rutte, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General has responded to a Russian drone strike that hit a residential building in Galati, Romania, saying the alliance has been in contact with Romanian authorities following the incident.

The strike, which reportedly injured several people, has drawn attention within the alliance due to concerns about the proximity of the war in Ukraine to NATO territory.

If a NATO member is hit by a drone, the alliance first consults under Article 4. Only if the attack is judged deliberate and severe would NATO invoke Article 5, committing all members to collective defence.

According to Rutte in an X post, discussions were held with Romanian President Nicusor Dan after the incident, as the NATO reiterated its support and defence commitments.
