Insider Brief

MIT and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts announced the Quantum Systems Laboratory at MIT, backed by a $25 million state investment, to expand shared quantum research infrastructure and strengthen the state’s position as a hub for quantum innovation.

The facility will combine a quantum computer with supporting technologies such as sensors and quantum interconnects, providing researchers from MIT and other institutions access to specialized equipment needed to develop scalable quantum systems.

Leaders said the laboratory is intended to support scientific research, startup formation, workforce development, and economic growth, with construction expected to create more than 150 on-site jobs and additional supply-chain and professional-services positions.

PRESS RELEASE — MIT President Sally Kornbluth and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced plans for a new laboratory to accelerate the development of next-generation quantum technologies that will enable Massachusetts to remain a national hub for quantum innovation.
