He added that the incident shows Russia’s war poses risks beyond Ukraine. “The recent incursion of a Russian drone into Romanian airspace and its explosion in a residential area of Galați proved once again that Russian aggression poses a real threat to the Black Sea region and the entire Europe,” he said. Sybiha also called for stronger sanctions and increased support for Ukraine’s air defenses. “Bolstering Ukraine’s air defense is also a strategic task – to protect not only our country, but also reduce risks for our neighbors,” he said. NATO, EU warn of escalation The comments follow an incident in which a Russian drone entered Romanian airspace during overnight attacks near the Danube and struck a residential building in Galați, injuring two people. Romania’s defense ministry described the incident as a “serious escalation” and said it had informed NATO while requesting faster deployment of anti-drone systems. Romanian F‑16 fighter jets were scrambled after multiple drone incursions were detected.
