For the second time in six months, a northern Ontario judge has been called to task for giving the OPP carte blanche to search potentially thousands of travellers’ belongings for drugs.
In a decision released Tuesday, Superior Court Justice Stephen Wojciechowski struck down a general warrant issued by Ontario Court Judge Elaine Burton in 2023 that allowed the provincial police force to randomly search the baggage of departing passengers at the Thunder Bay International Airport during a 30-day period.
