The supermarket chain will roll out Ocado’s smart platform technology across its website and app, in-store picking and its home delivery service08:10, 29 May 2026Updated 08:22, 29 May 2026Asda has announced a new partnership with Ocado to improve its online grocery service.The supermarket chain will roll out Ocado’s smart platform technology across its website and app, in-store picking and its home delivery service, starting from 2027.The deal will not see Asda products listed on the Ocado website - it will instead be used by Asda to upgrade its existing website, increase on-time deliveries and create more delivery slots.Asda fulfils more than 700,000 customer orders weekly and has around 1,100 stores nationwide. Ocado’s fulfilment technology is used in more than 1,000 grocery stores globally.Orders placed through Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats, will be picked by Asda using Ocado’s technology and delivered by these fast delivery services as normal.Asda executive chairman Allan Leighton said: “Asda is the cheapest full-range supermarket, as consistently shown by independent price comparisons from Which? and The Grocer, and has a large, well-established online offer.“We know that continued success in this highly competitive market is dependent on providing a positive experience for customers every time they shop.“ Partnering with Ocado, will strengthen our online offer and provide a consistent and high-quality experience for millions of shoppers, from order through to delivery, while supporting our Formula for Growth.”Tim Steiner, CEO of Ocado Group, said: "We're delighted that Asda has chosen Ocado to support the next phase of their online growth."The UK remains one of the world's most competitive and fast-evolving online grocery markets, where technology, scale and continuous innovation are increasingly important for retailers looking to maintain leadership positions."Through this partnership, Asda will be able to deploy a technology platform already processing more than 70 million orders annually worldwide, supporting market-leading customer propositions across 11 countries."Asda will also benefit from Ocado's significantly evolved platform, giving them the flexibility to adapt as the market continues to develop."It comes after Asda was named the cheapest supermarket for branded groceries for the third consecutive month by Which? consumer magazine.For those not using a loyalty card, Which? found that 240 branded items at Sainsbury’s were 17% more expensive than Asda – which does not offer exclusive prices to Asda Rewards customers – while Tesco (£912.56) was 15% more.Article continues belowAll 240 items, which included Dolmio Bolognese Sauce, Nescafe Azera instant coffee and Mr Kipling Angel Cake Slices, cost £795.21 at Asda.
