New Delhi: A nearly 700-kg albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” after its blond hair tuft drew comparisons to the US President, was spared ritual slaughter ahead of Eid al-Adha after videos of the animal went viral, prompting authorities to intervene and transfer it to the Dhaka Zoo.
The buffalo was reportedly sold for sacrifice ahead of the festival. But once footage spread widely online, crowds began descending on the farm to see him in person. Authorities refunded the buyer and ordered the buffalo moved to the national zoo in Dhaka. The episode drew reactions that ranged from political satire to philosophical reflection.
X user Aditya (@adityasvlogs) invoked the Hindi saying “जाको राखे साइयां मार सके ना कोय” to frame the reprieve, and said that social media virality had unexpectedly saved the buffalo’s life.
