Florida Crime News: A Florida man has been accused of killing his 6‑year‑old son, his romantic partner, and the family dog while visiting his mother in an upscale gated community. Authorities identified the suspect as Nicholas Novickis, who now faces two counts of second‑degree murder in connection with the deaths of his son, Phoenix, and his partner, Allie Novickis, 34, as well as one count of animal cruelty.The killings occurred on the morning of Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Artistry, a resort‑style neighborhood in Sarasota. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, the family had planned to go swimming that day.Donna Novickis, identified as the homeowner and the defendant’s mother, allegedly told investigators with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office that Nicholas arrived at her residence around 10 a.m. She said he greeted her in her bedroom, after which she went back to sleep.The affidavit further states that Donna then woke up a little over an hour later when she heard the sound of glass breaking, according to the affidavit. "She went to the slider at the back lanai and saw Phoenix standing near the doorway," the affidavit states, as quoted by PEOPLE. "Nicholas then walked out onto the lanai with a shotgun, racked the shotgun, and shot Phoenix one time in the head, killing him."According to the affidavit, Donna called 911 after Nicholas shot his dog in the back. She told investigators that Nicholas then dropped the gun on the lanai. Donna said she grabbed the weapon and fled the residence to seek help.While fleeing, Donna noticed that Allie had also been shot, according to the affidavit. The document notes that Donna provided investigators with surveillance footage that allegedly showed Nicholas walking inside with Allie, Allie going back outside and then returning inside.Allie is never seen again, according to the affidavit, and when Nicholas next appears on camera, he is carrying a gun. He is then seen shooting Phoenix point-blank in the head before shooting the dog, who was later pronounced dead at a local pet hospital, according to the affidavit.While waiting to speak with police Nicholas allegedly said it was "'f---ed up' that he killed his wife, son and dog," the affidavit said. He is now charged with two counts of murder and a single count of animal cruelty. Allie was never seen again, the affidavit stated and when Nicholas next appeared on camera, he was carrying a gun.
