After five long years of sleepless nights and endless assignments, Geraldine Karita Aumua's lifelong dreams have finally come true.
The 26-year-old from Sauniatu and Solaua graduated with her Bachelor's of Law degree from the University of the South Pacific (USP) on Friday, an achievement she credits to her family.
Growing up as an only child, Aumua witnessed the daily toil of her parents as they worked tirelessly to support their family. Her father, Auafa Samalie Aumua, is a family business owner, whereas her mother, Epenesa Aumua, is a medical clerk at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole hospital.“Seeing my dad at the market at dawn to sell taros and bananas and my mum working endless hospital shifts taught me that resilience is born from love,” said Aumua.
Pursuing law was never an easy task for Aumua. She said she owed it to her parents' sacrifice and unwavering support towards her studies. Aumua has learned that her biggest life lessonThe is to “ let their sacrifices become your ultimate motivation.”
Aumua has been granted the opportunity to further pursue her studies in Yokohama, Japan, this September. A huge achievement as Aumua is also the first Samoan female to receive a Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship.
