New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Giribala Singh, a retired judge and mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma whose death is being investigated by the federal agency. Sharma was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12.Singh was arrested hours after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to her earlier. Singh's bail request was revoked on Wednesday late night by the high court. The bail was revoked after HC heard two petitions, one filed by Twisha's father Navnidhi Sharma and another by the Madhya Pradesh government. In its order, the high court observed that some injuries found on Twisha's body were caused before her death. These injuries were not from removing the body or taking it to the hospital. The high court also observed that the sessions court had ignored the victim's family's allegations while granting bail. A Bhopal sessions court had granted anticipatory bail to Singh on May 15.Appearing on behalf of the Madhya Pradesh government, solicitor general Tushar Mehta told the high court on Wednesday that after getting bail, Singh was busy holding press conferences and made allegations against the deceased. Mehta argued that Singh showed no remorse and did not cooperate with the investigating agency. It might be mentioned here that Mehta had told the Supreme Court earlier this week that despite requests by the Madhya Pradesh Police, "there is no cooperation" on the part of Singh. "She (mother-in-law) said she won't get her statement recorded," Mehta had told the Supreme Court, which has taken suo motu cognisance of the case.A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant earlier this week said it was "slightly pained" by a "narrative" being created that the judiciary was not permitting a fair trial in the case because it involved allegations against a former district judge and her lawyer son. A team of CBI sleuths had arrived at Singh's residence on Thursday morning to quiz her in connection with the case.Noida-based Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune winner, married Samarth Singh, a Bhopal-based lawyer, five months ago after the two met through a dating app. Barely five months into the marriage, Twisha was found hanging from a gymnastic rope in her house. Her parents have blamed her in-laws for the death, accusing them of domestic violence and harassment.
