King Salman, crown prince offer condolences on death of former Yemeni president Hadi

LONDON/DUBAI: King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have offered their condolences to Yemen on the death of former president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who died aged 80 on Thursday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Hadi, who led the country through years of political upheaval and civil war, died at his residence in Riyadh.

Hadi, a former military commander from southern Yemen, served for nearly two decades as deputy to longtime President Ali Abdullah Saleh before becoming president in 2012 following Saleh’s resignation.

During his presidency, Hadi oversaw a turbulent transitional period marked by constitutional reform efforts, political unrest, and the growing conflict with the Iran-aligned Houthi militia.
