Nigeria has always been renowned for its outstanding talent. From Jay-Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu to Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman – every generation of the Super Eagles has produced true gems who have won over fans’ hearts with their spectacular skill and incredible goals. For our boys to continue shining in the world’s greatest stadiums, they need more opportunities to fulfil their potential. That’s precisely why the 1xCup grassroots tournament was created – a place where young, talented players can prove themselves and break into professional sport.
Bridge between street football and start of great career
The 1xCup isn’t just a football tournament, but a whole ecosystem that helps young players from local teams get a chance to build a professional career. Thanks to close cooperation with scouts from European and African clubs, the organizers have succeeded in creating an effective talent factory.
Over 30 players from previous 1xCup seasons have signed professional contracts with teams in Nigeria, Bulgaria, Norway, Albania, and many other countries.
Take the case of Okere Ebube, who won a bronze medal in the third season of the tournament and impressed scouts with his athleticism, discipline, and dedication. The talented central midfielder signed a contract with Tikvesh in North Macedonia and, after moving to Europe, managed to succeed at the professional level. In his first season, he played 10 matches and scored 1 goal – excellent statistics for a Nigerian player.
