Muslims offer prayers on the occasion of Bakrid in Thoothukudi on Thursday.

Muslims across Kanniyakumari and Thoothukudi districts celebrated Bakrid on Thursday with gaiety and festive spirit.Special prayers were offered at mosques where sheep and goats were sacrificed. The meat was distributed to the poor and needy.In Kanniyakumari district, Bakrid celebration commenced on Wednesday, with a sizable portion of people from the Muslim community observing the festival in line with the countries in the Middle East.Thousands of people gathered at Idgah grounds and offered special Eid-ul-adha prayers.A large number of people gathered at Bawa Kassim Waliyullah Masjid grounds in Edalakudi and offered prayers. Special prayers were also held at Thiruvithancode, Kanniyakumari, Marthandam, Kulasekaram, Kadayalumoodu, Colachel and Thengapattinam.In Thoothukudi district, Muslims gathered at Idgah ground in Thoothukudi for special Bakrid prayer. Following the payers, attendees embraced one another and exchanged greetings.Kayalpattiam town wore a festival look as people offered Bakrid prayers at mosques and took part in the celebrations with joy and togetherness.Portions of sacrificed meat along with rice, vegetables and fruits were distributed to the poor and underprivileged people.
