"Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) is a joke," Bessent said in a statement. "Treasury has sanctioned it." The Treasury Secretary warned corporations and states against "paying tolls or hiding them as aid payments."Bessent also said the U.S. would be "shutting down" Iranian airlines' access to landing slots, fuel, and ticket sales. "Only a satisfactory outcome in negotiations will end the downward spiral," the secretary concluded. Earlier in May, the Wall Street Journal reported Iran had created the authority as a mechanism to regulate shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, vessels must receive prior authorization before transiting the strait.
