Sinner, a finalist of the tournament in 2025, lost in five sets to Cerundolo, despite being two sets up in the second round match at Roland Garros.‌Sinner had won the first two sets of the match on Court Philippe-Chatrier, dropping only five games in the process.‌The four-time grand slam winner had also taken a 5-1 lead in the third set before going on to lose six games in a row that saw Cerundolo get back into the match.‌Sinner spoke with chair umpire Aurelie Tourte on the court before calling for a medical timeout while leading 5-4 in the third set. After being greeted by a physio, Sinner left the court to receive further treatment. Sinner had stated that he felt dizzy before being granted permission to leave the court. The No.1 seed returned to Court Philippe-Chatrier and Cerundolo went on to win the third set and then claimed a 6-1 victory in the fourth, which lasted just 29 minutes, to set up a deciding set at Roland Garros.‌Cerundolo then immediately broke Sinner’s serve in the fifth and deciding set to take a lead in the match for the first time and went on to claim a 6-1 victory in the set to seal a place in the third round.Cerundolo will face either Martin Landaluce or Vit Kopriva in the third round of the French Open, with both players unseeded in the tournament.Sinner went into the tournament as the early favourite after 2025 winner Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the French Open with a wrist injury that he suffered at the Barcelona Open last month.‌JOIN US ON FACEBOOK! Saying it would be a time violation then code and then a point, or you can get the physio: what do you want?’”Maclagan replied: "I don't like it at all. That's where I go back to I think you get a medical time out but it maybe costs you a point every 30 seconds."I think Cerundolo, in this instance or whatever state it is, 'I've worked hard to get in this physical condition, now you're struggling and you want a break? How about you give me a break from the fact that you're 6ft 8ins and you don't serve full pace? That's your asset and this is mine, you're taking mine away.'Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.‌French OpenTennisJannik Sinner
