Following this series of fuel cost comparisons between electric car models and comparable gas car models, here’s a comparison of the Ford Escape and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Naturally, with all of these comparisons, there are many assumptions to make and you can make assumptions that fit you and your life. I’m using the calculator here to plug in numbers and get results. In this scenario, I chose the first Ford Escape on the list and the first Ford Mustang Mach-E. That’s the Escape AWD 8-speed (26 mpg) and the Mustang Mach-E AWD ($2.97 miles/kWh). I used 10,000 miles for the first scenario since that’s approximately how much we drive a year, but then also used 15,000 in a second scenario since that’s approximately the US average. I used $0.07/kWh in that first scenario since that’s what we pay to charge our electric car, but then also used $0.18/kWh since that’s the US average (not taking into account the likely chance you can charge overnight at cheaper, time-of-use electricity prices). As far as gas prices, the average in Florida right now is $4.215/gallon, but I dropped it a bit to $4/gallon for the first scenario. It seems there’s a big risk the price of gas could spike much further, but there’s also a solid chance it’s lower across the course of a year or more. For the second scenario, the average price of gas across the country is $4.426/gallon, but I also just dropped it to $4/gallon. (Feel free to use a higher figure in your scenario if you think it will stay high or even grow over time.)
