Eight people, including three women, suffered multiple sting injuries when they were attacked by giant honeybees during a domestic function near Sivakasi on Thursday.All the victims were admitted to the Government Hospital in Sivakasi, where their condition is said to be stable.A group of people from A. Thulukkapatti had gone to a farmland for a ear-piercing ceremony.Some people were engaged in cooking the feast. The smoke emitted while cooking had disturbed a swarm of bees in a beehive located on top of a tree.The giant honeybees started to attack the people and several of them sustained multiple sting injuries.All of them were rushed to the government hospital where they were being given treatment.Multiple stings could cause allergy in the victims’ bodies like irritation, shortness of breath and could also lead to unconsciousness.All of them were given injection for allergy and some of them were given IV fluid to stabilise them, a senior medical officer said.
