Unification Minister Chung Dong-young on Thursday proposed an initiative led by the European Union (EU) to help the two Koreas resume dialogue and cross-border exchanges that have remained frozen for years.

In a meeting with a visiting European Parliament delegation in Seoul, Chung expressed hope for the establishment of a "2+1 multilateral dialogue framework" led by the EU and participated by the two Koreas.

"I also hope a visit to Pyongyang by a European Parliament delegation can be pursued in the near future," Chung added. The visiting delegation was led by Cesar Luena of Spain and comprised 11 lawmakers from five political parties.
