A Class VI student died after accidentally strangling himself while allegedly attempting to mimic tying a rope around his neck during play at Kodumudi in Erode district on Tuesday (May 26, 2026).Police identified the deceased as Darshan, 13, son of Perumal and Sathya of Valanthan Kottai Pudur near Ichipalayam in Kodumudi. He had recently completed his Class VI examinations at the Government Middle School in Valanthan Kottai and was at home for the summer vacation.According to the police, the boy was at home with his grandmother while his parents had gone out to purchase clothes for a family function. Around 8 p.m., the grandmother returned from a nearby Vinayagar temple and found Darshan hanging with the rope around his neck.Neighbours rushed to the spot after she raised an alarm. They cut down the rope and took the boy to the Government Hospital in Kodumudi, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police said preliminary inquiry revealed that the boy had allegedly attempted the act playfully, during which the rope accidentally tightened around his neck, leading to his death.
