A 27-year-old married woman was found dead at her husband’s house in Pallappadi near Bellur in Kasaragod district on Wednesday evening, with her family alleging domestic abuse and raising suspicion over the death.The deceased was identified as Serena, wife of Sainudheen of Pallappadi. She was found hanging in a shed around 4.30 p.m. Family members rushed her to hospital, but her life could not be saved.The Adoor police registered a case of unnatural death and began an investigation. Serena’s family alleged that she had been subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband’s family over the issue of not having children.According to relatives, they were informed about Serena’s death through a phone call from her husband’s family. Following this, Serena’s brother, Abdul Rahman, a native of Puthur, lodged a complaint with the police expressing suspicion over the circumstances leading to her death.Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).Speaking to the media, Abdul Rahman alleged that his sister had frequently faced verbal abuse and physical assault at her husband’s house. He said the family had repeatedly asked her to return home, but she chose to remain with her husband despite the difficulties.He further claimed that Serena used to contact him whenever problems arose at home, but when he tried calling her on Wednesday, her phone was switched off.Serena was the daughter of the late Baduvan Kunhi and Nabeesumma.
