Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra hailed Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after his explosive knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, calling him a “special player” but urging caution over fast-tracking him into the Indian team.Rajasthan Royals stormed into Qualifier 2 with a commanding 47-run win over SRH, powered by another fearless innings from the 15-year-old opener.Speaking on Star Sports’ ‘Amul Cricket Live’, Chopra said Suryavanshi’s assault left even an experienced SRH bowling attack without answers.“Bowlers usually have a plan against Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Pat Cummins started with yorkers, which Vaibhav couldn't score off initially. But once he got his eye in, nothing worked. The SRH bowlers looked helpless. It felt like they were hit by a tsunami,” Chopra said.“Forget Suryavanshi’s age for a moment, just look at the quality. This was one of the best counter-attacking innings by an opener in a long time. Against a good bowling attack, he played with complete control. The bowlers had plans, but those plans failed completely. That is the mark of a special player,” he added.Chopra also broke down the technical and mental aspects behind Suryavanshi’s destructive batting.“It all starts with Vaibhav Suryavanshi's backlift. That generates immense power. He has a very solid base at the crease. He mostly likes to hit down the ground or on the leg side, where he can use his bottom hand effectively,” Chopra said.Highlighting the youngster’s fearless T20 approach, Chopra added: “Fearlessness is in his DNA. We are astonished by what he has achieved. But in the next five years, we will talk about him breaking his own records.”Suryavanshi has already smashed 65 sixes this IPL season, with Chopra even suggesting the teenager could one day hit 100 sixes in a single edition of the tournament.Despite the growing clamour for an India call-up, Chopra said selectors should avoid rushing the teenager into the national side.“We are still two years away from the next World Cup. There is plenty of time. Yes, picking Vaibhav Suryavanshi for India based on his IPL form is an exciting thought,” he said.“He is special, no doubt. But you don't make changes just for the sake of it. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are those toppers right now. You don't replace them,” Chopra added.“His India debut doesn't have to happen tomorrow. It can wait. He is only 15. There is no rush.”Looking ahead to Qualifier 2 between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, Chopra said GT’s disciplined approach could halt RR’s momentum.“Gujarat Titans should have a clear plan heading into the second qualifier: bat first and put 200-plus runs on the board,” Chopra said.“They may not have the most glamorous or star-studded lineup, but they are a very disciplined unit. Every player knows their role, and they execute it without panic,” he added.
