Delhi Gymkhana Club, one of Delhi’s most exclusive colonial-era institutions, is at the centre of a major land dispute. Centre’s Land and Development Office has directed the club to hand over its 27.3-acre Safdarjung Road premises by 5 June, citing defence, public security and other public-interest projects.Reports also say the club faces unpaid ground rent dues of Rs 47.58 crore. The land is government-owned and held by the club on a perpetual lease.
