A young boy has died after going missing from a bus transporting him home from a special needs school.
The Auckland school said it was a “really sad and hard time” for the school community and for the devastated family after the boy’s death on Monday afternoon.
Stuff understands the boy, who was under 10 years old, was found dead at a private residence after he was able to exit the bus before he reached his home.
“A very loved young man has passed away,” the principal told Stuff on Thursday, confirming they had been speaking with the bus company after the incident.
“It is a really sad and hard time for the family, as well as our whole school community, and all we're asking is that people respect the privacy of the family and the staff at this time,” the principal said.
