No, it’s not quite ending 108 years of misery like the Cubs did 10 years ago. But snapping their 10-game losing streak with a 10-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night felt like a huge weight lifted off the backs of an entire organization. The win did not come easy, as the Cubs blew leads of 3-0 and 4-3 before ultimately routing the Pirates. Ian Happ opened the scoring for the Cubs in the first inning with a two-run double and then gave the Cubs the lead for good with a three-run homer in the seventh. The Cubs scored six runs in that frame, turning a tie game into a blowout.During their seemingly interminable losing streak, the Cubs had the worst starting pitcher’s ERA (8.46) and the worst batting average (.185) in all of baseball. The Cubs have already had two 10-game winning streaks this season. But they followed up a 20-3 run with a stretch of just two wins over 16 games.Because of that hot stretch, the Cubs are still four games over .500 (30-26) and hanging in a division race where every club in the NL Central is also above .500. The Cubs, along with the rest of the division, are looking up at the Milwaukee Brewers.May 28, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
